Movin' On Up!

>> Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Well y'all, I'm happy to report my NEW BLOG is up an running! It's time to say "goodbye" to Lady29er and "Hey Girl Hey!" to ActiveEggplant!!!

After much consideration I decided to do away with Lady29er and create a new blog with a renewed focus on a healthy lifestyle, both physically and emotionally.  I hope to document my journey as I reestablish a sustainable fitness plan that is FUN, CHALLENGING and REWARDING.

So, stop by and see me at http://activeeggplant.com and be sure to update your RSS feeds, email subscriptions and bookmarks!

Attainable Goals?

>> Monday, February 22, 2010

As everyone knows, I've been in quite a rut with running since the Disney Marathon.  I'm back up to about 3 miles now, and I'm toying with the idea of signing up for a long run on April 10th - the Iron Girl 15k.

Here's what scares me:
  • It's NINE miles.  That's a lifetime away from 3 miles!
  • Do I WANT  to run that far again?
  • CAN I run that far again so soon?
I'm tempted to sign up for it and give it my best shot...what' the worst that can happen?  I know the answer to that - I'd walk more than I wanted to then be pissed at myself for weeks.  Best case scenario?  I FINISH and get myself a fun finishers medal and a cute little plush Duck!

I may have just talked myself into doing this!

SLACKER

>> Sunday, February 21, 2010

I've been slacking lately:

  • Slacking with workouts
  • Slacking with eating right
  • Slacking with getting enough sleep
  • Slacking with my pet parenting responsibilities.
Time to turn over a new leaf (again) and get back on track!  I've got a lot of work to do before the Wildman Sprint Triathlon on March 13th...and lots of work to do before I reach my ultimate weight loss goal (which as of yet hasn't been put in "writing" on the blog).  The minutes are ticking away!

So time for some steps in the right direction.  I started today with a long swim at the YMCA.  Here's what I plan to do going forward:
  • Get back on track with scheduled workouts.  Tomorrow brings a strength training workout - the first in over a week - OUCH!!!
  • EAT NORMAL MEALS.  A week of vacationing at Disney World was not good seeing as we would sometimes skip meals due to the schedule of the peeps we were on vacay with (read lots of late night meals which included chicken fingers and pizza).
  • Get to bed by 10:30 p.m. no matter what.  (And only 1/2 hour of reading after I hit the hay...no more of this hour and a half crap I've had going on!)
  • Spend some quality time with Dottie Pottie every night, whether it's taking her for a "W" or just playing fetch in the house.
P.S...stay tuned for a change in blog format - I'm moving from Blogger to WordPress and will have a new theme/layout, name and  location.  Diggity has been working on this lately and I'm tres-excited to start it up!

Trilogy

>> Saturday, February 13, 2010

Today I managed to finish my first Trilogy Workout with a Swim/Bike/Run session at the YMCA.

I started off with 30 minutes in the pool & was able to complete 18 laps.  I'm quite a slow swimmer but at this point, I don't really care about speed & only care about staying afloat and not sucking in water.  I am happy to report I can now complete two full laps breathing on every 4th stroke!  That's a HUGE step for me.  I can't keep that going the whole time, but at least I'm able to sneak it in every couple of laps! Seriously, I think swimming might be my new favorite thing!!!!

Random question - am I the only one that has to pee REALLY BAD after every swim?  Sounds weird, but no matter what I have to go as soon as I get out of the pool!

The rest of my workout consisted of 30 min on the stationary bike - it's cold and windy here in FL so a road ride with wet hair & water in my ears wasn't too appealing.  I felt like I was in a sauna and it was a great ride!  I had my trusty iPod with me and pretty much made it into a self-supported spin class!  Fun fun!

I've been feeling some intense shin pain this week so I did my "run" on the elliptical.  While it  wasn't a real run, I still felt good about it.  Nothing like high intensity and low impact!!!

I tried to keep transition times down but I'll admit - it's kinda hard to squeeze into a sports bra when you're still wet from the pool!  But it's stuff like this that I'm going to have to perfect for race day!

3 Weeks

>> Saturday, February 6, 2010

I'm nearing the end of the first 3 weeks of my Tri training program - this means I only have 5 weeks left before race day!  I feel like I've got loads of work to do before I'm ready for this thing.  I did miss one workout this week (skipped a one 50 min ride) but otherwise I'm on track.

Swimming is going well.  I had a "bad" day on Thursday - in the pool I felt like I drank more water than ever and I was PISSED at the guy next to me - he was a like a fricking TANK in the water. Eventually though I realized that I needed to suck it up and deal.  Afterall, there is going to be tons of people kicking and splashing around me during the race so I might as well get used to it now.  Once I snapped out of my bad mood because of the Tank I was able to focus on my form and SWIMMING EASY and salvaged the rest of the time in the pool.

Biking is also going well.  But this is something I've never really had a problem with - I really like riding!   I just need to keep myself in the saddle and get used to getting on the bike after being tired already.  Diggity and I had a mini-tour planned for this weekend but the weather didn't cooperate.  Next weekend maybe!

Running is going surprisingly well now!  I think I've gotten over my pure disdain for running.  (As you'll recall, I was fed up with running after the Disney Marathon and the training that went into it.)  I'm breaking out of the Galloway Method and really like it!  Today's run was 40 min and I was able to do it with NO WALK BREAKS!!!  It felt great and I actually feel like I can call myself "a runner" again.  My iPod just may be the greatest thing on Earth as it keeps me company on the trail/roads.  I guess I should find out whether or not I'm allowed to use one during Wildman!!!

Tomorrow brings 30 min in the pool followed by a 45 min run.  Then SUPERBOWL BABY!!!  (Not sure why I'm so excited by that - not even sure who I want to win the game!)

Had a great dinner of seared tuna with salad, snow peas and potatoes with Diggity, Tammy and Aunt Jean.  Now time for a dip in the hot tub!  Nighty night!
